Arias: Closing Arguments (Pros. Pt. 2)

"If I was going to kill someone I would wear gloves," said Jodi Arias to Det. Esteban Flores on July 15, 2008.  That seems to be the base logic behind Kirk Nurmi's closing argument in her defense.  His client is too smart to devise such a nonsensical premeditation plan.  No, no, this was self-defense because Jodi says Travis Alexander was an abuser and a pervert.  And if you don't believe that, then you must find she acted in the heat of passion.  Better yet, you'll have so much smoke in your eyes you'll give up and acquit like the Casey Anthony jury did.

"The defendant is a liar and a killer," said Martinez speaking of what a reasonable person would do in respect to self-defense.  Together, all three deadly wounds show her intent to kill and negate all reasonable possibility of self-defense.  "What injuries was she able to talk to you about that Mr. Alexander inflicted upon her?"   Mr. Alexander was naked, unarmed, sopping wet...  There is no evidence he ever laid a hand on her other than her own dubious testimony.

Martinez goes on to review the charges and explain the instructions.  And he explains exactly why a guilty verdict for first degree murder is the only proper verdict.

Jurors #10, #15 and #17 were chosen as alternates, leaving a jury of 8 men and 4 women.  At 5:37pm Central, the jury receives the case for deliberation.
